North Melbourne's cruel run of injuries in 2011 has continued with highly regarded midfielder Levi Greenwood re-injuring his left ankle in the VFL at Avalon Oval in Werribee.

Playing for the first time in several weeks since initially injuring his ankle in the club's NAB Cup loss to Geelong, Greenwood ran out with the Werribee Tigers and got through three quarters unscathed and looked to be running well. But an innocuous incident early in the fourth quarter saw the gritty ball-winner go down and let a gut-wrenching cry out.

An opposition player had fallen across his leg causing the injury.

The club was not in a position to speculate on the severity of the injury but is hopeful it's not as serious as the one Greenwood sustained in Geelong in February.

Greenwood will be assessed on Sunday before having scans early in the week.
