In this new ‘Super Seven’ video series, www.afc.com.au will search for and then highlight some of these acts of skill, courage or persistence that can have an enormous impact on the direction of the match.
These game-defining moments could be a brilliant goal or spectacular mark but our focus will be on the efforts that can create scoring opportunities, force critical turnovers or inspire the team and the fans.
The round one ‘Super Seven’ was easy to fill after a great comeback win over Hawthorn at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night.
Patrick Dangerfield’s important last quarter goal is an example of what we are looking for in this series. Yes, the goal was great, but if you watch the start of the clip you will see Danger force the initial turnover by running at the Hawthorn player, who handballs and misses a target. Michael Doughty intercepts and after a series of handballs it returns to Dangerfield, who nails the goal.
Patrick features in another of the ‘Super Seven’ by blocking a Cameron Bruce kick while standing the mark, picking up the loose ball and finding Richard Douglas, who sets up Chris Knights for a goal in the third term.
This week’s edition also includes Richard Tambling’s crowd-pleasing soccer kick late in the match as well as his early bump on Hawthorn forward Jarryd Roughead, Phil Davis’ chase and desperate tackle of Hawthorn’s Chance Bateman to stop him from scoring, Taylor Walker’s uplifting third goal and a centre square intercept by Ivan Maric that led to a goal by Shaun McKernan.
