Wells and Firrito caught up with the 22-year-old after his first-round shock upset win over 9th seed Andy Murray. The Kangaroos presented Tsonga with his own North Melbourne jumper and taught him about Aussie Rules.
“He picked up how to kick and handball really quickly, which is amazing considering he knows little about our game,” Firrito said.
“His Open campaign has been fantastic and all the boys have been following his progress and we are looking forward to watching him live in action tonight.”
Since the kick to kick session with the Roos, Tsonga’s amazing Open form has continued with him knocking out fellow Frenchman and 8th-seed Richard Gasquet in the fourth round.
Tonight he meets 14th seed, Russian Mikhail Youzhny on centre court for a Grand Slam semi-final berth.
