ADELAIDE ruckman Jonathon Griffin wants out of the club and hopes to continue his AFL career in his native Western Australia next season.

Griffin has told the Crows, including coach Neil Craig, of his intention to be traded to Fremantle or West Coast for personal reasons.

The 24-year-old has played 41 matches for Adelaide since being drafted as a rookie at the end of 2005.

Eleven of those have come this year, though Griffin is recovering from an ankle injury and has not played since Adelaide's loss to the Western Bulldogs in round 19.

Griffin's manager Colin Young said his client had no issues with the Crows.

"He has a very serious personal reason that has prompted his decision not to seek a new contract with the Crows," Young told sportsnewsfirst.com.au.

"We now have to check with either Fremantle or the West Coast, to see if they have interest in Jon to continue his career with them.

"We will talk to both the WA clubs over the next couple of weeks and see what might transpire in regards to a trade deal for Jon."

Adelaide football manager Phil Harper confirmed in a statement on Friday evening that Griffin had requested a trade, but only on a "win-win" basis.

"He understands that that if a win-win deal cannot be done, he is happy to stay in Adelaide (the next closest place to Perth) and continue his career here," Harper said.

"The club is sympathetic to  Jon’s wishes and will work towards a deal that is a positive for all parties."

The question now is whether either WA club will want the athletic big man, or which club wants him more.

Fremantle boasts All-Australian ruckman Aaron Sandilands, youngster Zac Clarke and utility Kepler Bradley.

West Coast's ruck stocks include veteran big man Dean Cox, second-year sensation Nic Naitanui and developing rookie Will Sullivan.

Griffin is the seventh player who is certain to be trimmed from Adelaide's 2010 playing list.

Veterans Simon Goodwin, Andrew McLeod, Brett Burton and Tyson Edwards have all retired, as has Trent Hentschel, while star defender Nathan Bock looks certain to head to the Gold Coast.

Griffin's likely departure makes for a semi-exodus, while the club remains in contract negotiations with dashing half-forward Chris Knights.
