BRAD Symes’ trusty right foot might have been causing him a bit of grief on Monday, but 10 weeks ago, it was the weapon that won his grassroots club, Gawler Centrals, a cool $1000.

In the NAB Cup quarter final against Hawthorn, Symes got on the end of a 50m penalty and kicked a super goal to claim $1000 for his junior club, courtesy of NAB.

On Monday, Symes presented the President of the Gawler Centrals Football Club with the cheque.

"The 50m penalty helped for the super goal, but yeah I got a few text messages after the game and the boys were pretty happy to get the $1000. I think they wanted to use the money over the bar, but I think the club has other thoughts,” Symes said with a laugh.

"I spent four or five years growing up playing for Gawler Centrals. They gave me a lot and it's good to give a little bit back to them as well.”

Symes, who was sporting a ‘moon boot’ on his right foot, made the presentation during Adelaide’s Community Camp to the Barossa Valley.

The prolific ball winner was restricted to light duties on day one of the camp, as he recovers from an ankle injury. Symes sprained his ankle against Carlton two weeks ago and was thought to be okay after returning to the field.

He was named in the team to play North Melbourne last week, but pulled up sore on Friday and was sent for scans.

“I didn't train too much last week and I thought if I got an extra couple of days I'd be a chance, but Friday I pulled up pretty sore,” Symes said.

“I got the MRI done and there was a little bit of ligament damage at the bottom of the leg, so I'll spend the next two weeks in the moon boot and we'll see how we go after that.”

Symes was one of three Adelaide casualties on the weekend with Richard Douglas (knee) and Brad Moran (hamstring) also suffering setbacks.

All three will require close monitoring, but are expected to miss at least two weeks.

In better news, enigmatic forward Nick Gill is preparing to shave off his ‘rehab’ beard having overcome a hamstring strain and he, along with Luke Jericho (sternum), Bryce Campbell (ankle) and Trent Hentschel (hamstring), will be available to play in the SANFL this weekend. Brent Reilly (wrist) could also resume after the break.

Symes, who has impressed since joining the Crows late last year, was hopeful of regaining his spot in the team once he had fully recovered.

"I played the first six rounds and was stringing some good games together,” he said.

“When you're in the side and the side's playing well you want to work hard to keep your spot there, so it's a bit disappointing, but I'm sure if I can get back there in two or three weeks, I can start where I left off.

"It's hard to say whether I’ll get straight back into the team. It depends how the other lads go. Obviously, they played pretty well on the weekend without me, but I'm not too worried about that just yet.

“I'll do my rehab and hopefully get back up within two or three weeks.”
