Chris Walpole of Springwood was the lucky winner of the LIONS@springwood member giveaway - a $10,000 web savings account kindly donated by BOQ.

All members who signed up at the LIONS@springwood social club prior to its opening on Saturday November 27 went into the draw to win the prize.

Chris was presented with his cheque today at the social club, and was delighted with his winnings.

“This time of year the money will definitely come in handy - it’s such a great thrill to win,” Chris said.

“My family and I have enjoyed the facilities here on a number of occasions and we are looking forward to many more. It’s a great atmosphere, excellent facilities, and fantastic meals.”

“Thank you so much to the Lions and BOQ for this promotion.”

Local BOQ Owner-Manager Tony Ambrose was on hand to present Chris with his cheque, and coincidentally, the two men already know each other - Chris is one of Tony’s current customers at BOQ Springwood.

“When Chris’s name was read out, I thought ‘I know that person!’ It is always special to hand out money, and even better to someone who has been a customer of ours for years,” Tony said.

“BOQ has been a partner of the Lions for some years now, and given that I’m a real footy head, there is nothing better than being in a social club that is an Aussie Rules one, and right here in the heart of Springwood.”

The LIONS@springwood social club now has over 20,000 members. At the Club’s Grand Opening, there were 10,000 members signed up and registered - meaning that in just three weeks the membership numbers have doubled.

Brisbane Lions Chief Executive Officer Steven Wright said it was great to be able to reward one of the Club’s members for their early sign-up.

“We are really pleased to be able to give Chris this $10,000 web savings account from one of our major sponsors, BOQ. BOQ are very active in the local Springwood and Logan community and we look forward to working with them and other Springwood businesses in the future,” Wright said.

The Club has seen an overwhelming level of support from the local community at the new club, with huge volumes of members frequenting the Club on a daily basis.

This level of support has meant that the Lions have been able to give back to the community in equally high measures - the most recent example of which is the 50 hampers that the Lions donated to the Logan East Community Centre.
