The Collingwood Football Club wishes to advise that Brodie Holland, Sam Iles and Chris Egan will not be offered new playing contracts for the 2009 season.

Holland, 28, has enjoyed a fine career that has yielded 155 games and 141 goals with Collingwood and Fremantle across 11 seasons.

He has expressed an interest in continuing his AFL career elsewhere should the appropriate opportunity arise.

Originally from Glenorchy in Tasmania, Holland was traded to Collingwood at the end of 2000 after three seasons and 36 games with the Dockers, and after enhancing his reputation as a dangerous small forward with 28 goals in 21 games in his first season in black and white, developed into one of the hardest working and fittest midfielders at the club.

Holland represented the Magpies in the 2003 grand final, and finished second in the Copeland Trophy voting in 2005, a season in which he played every game and averaged 22 possessions.

“Collingwood wishes to acknowledge Brodie’s eight-year contribution to the club, in which time he played some excellent football and provided a great example of what can be achieved through hard work and dedication,” Collingwood chief of football Geoff Walsh said.

21-year-old Iles, also from Tasmania, was selected with the second pick in the 2005 pre-season draft, and made his debut in the black and white against Adelaide in round 18, 2006.

A hard-running midfielder, he played seven AFL games in 2006 and 2007 but was unable to break into the senior side in 2008.

Egan, meanwhile, managed 27 games and booted 22 goals in four seasons with the Magpies after being recruited from the Murray Bushrangers with the 10th overall pick in the 2004 draft.

The 21-year-old half forward/wingman played in 24 games in his first two seasons, before a knee injury restricted him to just one game in 2007. After playing in the first two matches of the 2008 season, Egan was unable to get back into the side.

“Sam and Chris are young players who unfortunately won’t be continuing with the club, however both deserved their chance and worked hard to make it at the elite level,” Walsh added.

“The club wishes all three players the very best in their future endeavours.”

These delistings bring the number of Collingwood list changes to six following the conclusion of the 2008 season, with Scott Burns, Shane Wakelin and Ryan Lonie having announced their retirements.
