THE JAMES Hird factor has reportedly kept midfielder Leroy Jetta at Essendon after he had been set to move to another Melbourne club.

Sports News First has reported that former West Australian Jetta, 22, has accepted a new contract with the Bombers after two meetings with the new Essendon coach.

The website said another ex-WA player, utility David Myers, and prolific midfielder Brent Stanton were also on the verge of re-signing.

Jetta's manager, Colin Young, reportedly said Jetta "had one foot already out the door and was on his way to another Melbourne based club. But the James Hird factor got in the way.

"Leroy met with James twice and said that his discussions with James were sensational and he wanted to be a part of the re-birth of Essendon as a club.

"We had discussed going back to Western Australia but I guess the changes at Windy Hill were something Leroy wanted to be a part of going forward."

Jetta has played 39 matches with Essendon after being selected from South Fremantle with a priority pick in the 2006 NAB AFL Draft, pick 18 overall.

He played 11 matches in 2010, impressing late in the season as a midfielder.
