Yze catapulted himself in a forwards motion at great pace over Geelong's Josh Hunt midway through the first term at Skilled Stadium in pulling in his screamer, before landing awkwardly.
The Demons' star said on Sunday he actually hurt his hand upon landing but had been cleared of any serious injury and was expected to play in this week's last home and away game against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.
"I have never really taken a mark like that before," Yze told Channel Nine's Sunday Footy Show.
"It was a little bit weird, I shut my eyes (after taking the mark) and I landed pretty hard and hurt my hand."
"I hurt the back of my hand and I had it checked out today but it should be fine and I was able to get through the game okay."
Yze joked that he needed lessons from Melbourne's regular high flyer Russell Robertson on how to land after taking screamers to avoid getting injured.
As a result of that screamer, Yze kicked one of his three goals for the day in the Demons' draw with Geelong and it was also revealed after the game that he played a pivotal role in the goal that secured the draw for Melbourne - which kept the club's hopes of finishing in the top four in their own hands.
The Demons trailed by a goal with five minutes left when back-up ruckman Mark Jamar became the team's unlikely saviour after marking and converting truly from 35 metres out but on a tricky angle.
It was only the 12th goal in Jamar's 40 game career and afterwards he revealed Yze had offered him some timely advice as he prepared to shoot for goal.
"Adem Yze came up and gave me a few words and he said the same thing to me as the last time I kicked a goal," Jamar told Sportal.
"He always says just pick someone in the crowd behind the goals and kick it to them and that helped relax me."
The importance of Jamar's kick became obvious just minutes later when Geelong big man Brad Ottens - a far more noted goalkicker than Jamar - missed an easier chance to win the game for the Cats.
Jamar, one of the Demons' most improved players this year, said he was just happy to make such an important contribution to the team.
"The other boys did a lot more work than me out there, I just did a bit of finishing at the end I suppose," he said.
"I have still got a fair bit of improvement in me but I have only missed one game this year and it's great the coaching staff have put their faith in me and given me the opportunity to represent this club."
