HAWTHORN coach Alastair Clarkson has said that he is "sick of talking" about Lance Franklin's kicking.

Franklin kicked 4.5 against Geelong in the clubs' round 17 clash but Clarkson insisted that the star forward's accuracy was not of concern to him.

"I'm sick of talking about it to be honest," he said.

"He makes an enormous contribution in terms of the role he plays for our side.

"It's a nice topic for everyone to focus on but it's over exaggerated, from my point of view.

Clarkson said he was happy if Franklin consistently managed four or five goals from his nine or 10 shots.

"I reckon there'd be 15 other clubs in the competition that would want a player like that in their side. So as long as he plays his role and makes a contribution for us we're pleased with his output."

When asked if Franklin was doing extra kicking sessions to try to improve his accuracy, Clarkson said he planned to give the same answer each time he was questioned about the spearhead.

"I'll always have the same approach to that question for the rest of his career, probably.

"He works on it tediously here at training with his forward line coaches and at some point in time that's going to translate into a more consistent performance.

"Now the lad's 21 years of age and he's getting an enormous amount of opportunity to get shots on goal and that's the most pleasing thing for us.

"So over time he'll develop more confidence in his kicking, but it's not because he's not working hard at it."

Clarkson said he believes it's only a matter of time before Franklin's accuracy improves.

"I think if you watch him before the game he usually goes out and has 20 or 30 shots, too, so it's just the positions he's kicking them from and his confidence levels (that's affecting him during games).

"But he's a young kid and he's only played 70 or so games of AFL footy so he'll get better as time goes by."
