YOU wouldn’t expect Mick Malthouse to get carried away by any win and the Collingwood coach was true to form when he assessed his side’s big win over the reigning premiers.

“We’ve got to be very careful here. Geelong had been up for a long, long time," Malthouse said after his team's emphatic 86-point victory over the premiers at the MCG on Friday night

"I’m not  going to second-guess Mark Thompson here, but I suspect he would think they were just about due and perhaps the intensity wasn’t there,"

But Malthouse couldn’t help expressing his approval at the way Collingwood locked on 85 tackles during the night.

“I can’t remember it ever being above 85 so it’s certainly one of the highest”.

Against the top sides you have to be [aggressive in your tackles] because you just cant live with them skill-wise.”

Malthouse dismissed comparisons with last year’s preliminary final.

“If you want to refer back to last year, Geelong won the premiership last year and we didn’t.”

Malthouse admitted being puzzled by the media coverage around Anthony Rocca, who along with Travis Cloke, contributed strongly for the Pies.

“Sometimes I am bemused by sub-editors’ headlines, because I never once referred to Anthony -- outside of the fact that he had pride -- I never said anything about his game other than positional and not about attitude or his attack on the ball."
