Today there has been some talk in the media about our review of the Collingwood cheer squad and I would like to clarify a few points.
It is important that Collingwood remain the most passionate cheer squad in the AFL and support the team in a manner deemed appropriate by the club guidelines formed in conjuction with the cheer squad leadership group.
As I have already stated to existing cheer squad members, due to growing demand from new cheer squad members each year, the club will ask for applications and reappoint a new cheer squad each season. Some Collingwood supporters have been on the waiting list for several years and deserve an opportunity to be a part of the official Collingwood cheer squad. After each season, the cheer squad will be reviewed and assessed by the club as any other official part of the club. The goal of this application process is to ensure that the Collingwood cheer squad contains members who are willing to cheer on the players and are happy to operate within the clear behavioural guidelines of the team.
In regards to the pricing of the cheer squad membership, the prices set by the club are exactly the same as member reserve seat packages but include guaranteed access to grand final seating and many other benefits that come with being an official part of the club. The Collingwood cheer squad has never been designed as an opportunity for people to access cheap premium packages but to bring together a group of passionate and committed members as an official supporter group of the club.
