Despite being on the losing side, St.Kilda youngster James Begley only enhanced his reputation against Hawthorn on the weekend and showed why he is a star in the making.

Begley received the round seven nomination for the AFL Rising Star Award and it was a fitting tribute to the 20-year-old utility who is finally starting to make a name for himself since being drafted in 1998.

He played three games in his debut season in 1999 and constant shoulder problems restricted him to only three appearances last year.

The Saints have high hopes for the 188-centimetre Begley who was their second choice behind Lenny Hayes in the 1998 Draft.

Last Saturday night Begley picked up 24 disposals against the Hawks and was given a variety of roles, including some big assignments on Hawthorn stars Shane Crawford and Daniel Chick.
