The 23-year-old was cut by the Cats last month after struggling to break into the senior side, playing just 24 games throughout his five years at the club.
Gamble and his manager Nigel Carmody of ESP are now hopeful his recent hard work on the training track will see him thrown a lifeline on Thursday.
"We enter the draft hopeful he'll get that opportunity," Carmody told afl.com.au on Wednesday. "He's got his best footy ahead of him, [which] means he's got a lot to offer an AFL club.
"It's been a good experience for him to go through something like this and I've been very impressed with how he's managed himself through the process.
"He elected to get back into training perhaps earlier than he needed to make sure he was in the right physical shape if he does get the opportunity."
If Gamble isn't taken this week, he still has the option of nominating for the NAB AFL Pre-Season and NAB AFL Rookie Drafts, to be held on December 7.
Carmody said he was confident Gamble, who spent most of this season playing in defence for Geelong's VFL side, would be considered in the later drafts if not on Thursday.
"You rarely see players of his calibre slip through beyond the rookie draft now," Carmody said.
"There have been some good success stories starting to emerge of players who have gone onto a club's rookie list at his age and then made their way through the various channels back to being a fully-fledged AFL player.
"We know that is there if he doesn't get his opportunity on Thursday night."
He also said he expected Gamble to commence training with an AFL club next week in the hope of impressing before the December drafts if he wasn't picked up on Thursday.
