After narrowly missing selection in the opening game of the season, Dayne Beams went onto play each of the remaining 25 matches in only his second season at the elite level, including all four finals, and in the process confirmed his standing as one of the keys to the Magpie side for the next decade. Beams played mainly across half forward with stints pinch-hitting in the midfield, and finished with the fifth-most disposals at the club and the fifth-most goals (26.32) to highlight his ball-winning ability and excellent goal sense. While his two grand finals were quiet, his big-stage performances on ANZAC Day and against the Cats in round nine were superb.

Highlights
Round 5 v Essendon (ANZAC Day): Beams finished runner-up in the ANZAC Medal voting after a fine 23-possession display that included a huge 13 inside 50s.

Round 9 v Geelong: Beams was the Pies’ standout in the loss to the Cats, booting four of the team’s six goals to announce himself as a big-stage performer.

Round 18 v Carlton: With 28 touches (including 10 contested), six tackles and three goals, Beams won the Peter Mac Medal for his BOG performance in the big win over the Blues.
