The 2009 Toyota AFL Premiership Season fixture released today by the AFL will see Fremantle play a string of blockbuster home games, including night matches against Hawthorn and Sydney, plus seven games in Victoria, two games in Adelaide, and one game on the Gold Coast.

"I think the fixture is positive on a range of levels," said Chief Executive Officer Steve Rosich on the release of the 2009 fixtures.

"We look at fixtures from a playing perspective as a travelling team but importantly also what it means for our supporters in terms of the types of games we get to play at home.

"In season 2009, we've got some fantastic home games against big clubs, which is great for our members and supporters.

"We're really pleased with the crowd-pulling power of our 11 home games, which will see us take on Sydney (round 5), Hawthorn (round 8), Richmond (round 10), Geelong (round 12), Carlton (round 14), West Coast (round 17) and Essendon (round 21) at Subiaco Oval.

"Season 2009 will also see Fremantle avoid playing away games against Brisbane and Sydney but will give us an opportunity to play against Carlton on the Gold Coast."

Fremantle's season kicks off on Sunday 29 March against the Western Bulldog's at Subiaco Oval, which is also the club's annual Starlight Purple Haze Game proudly supported by Fremantle Ports.

The annual Len Hall Game will again be extra special this year, with the round five clash falling on ANZAC Day against Sydney under lights at Subiaco Oval on a Saturday night.

"The Len Hall Game will again be a real highlight of the season when we also commemorate and recognise the ANZAC tradition," said Rosich.

"Given the success of last year's Len Hall Game, we are delighted that we will again have the opportunity to play a night game against a quality side on ANZAC Day."

The first Carlton Mid Derby will be a West Coast home game in round six with the season's second encounter scheduled for Round 17.

Given the heavy travelling schedule during the season, Fremantle will benefit in 2009 with a reduction in the number of six day breaks.

"Obviously with the travel demands the West Australian teams are prepared for some short breaks because you do go from playing Saturdays and Sundays, to Fridays, and have the return fixture so the good news is that the number of six day breaks has been reduced to five next season," said Rosich.

"The trend in recent seasons has also seen us travel to both Brisbane and Sydney in the same year for away games against the Lions and the Swans but in 2009 they will both have to travel over here to play us at home."

During the 22 home and away rounds, Fremantle will make seven trips to Victoria, two to Adelaide, and one to the Gold Coast.

"Seven games in Victoria is great news for our members based in that State," Rosich said.

"We also have two games at AAMI Stadium, where we have had pretty good performances in recent years."

The 2009 fixture sees Fremantle play three of the 2008 season's top eight twice, Geelong, the Western Bulldogs and Adelaide.

"There are always a number of clubs that you'd expect to continue to play well and those you'd expect to improve but off the top you can't see any teams really dropping off, so we don't see the competition getting any easier," said Rosich.

"I think it's a great set of fixtures for our members and supporters, particularly with the number of great home games that we'll have at Subiaco Oval.

"Our supporters will see big matches against top opposition sides, including Hawthorn, Geelong, Sydney, Essendon and Carlton all at home, which means that people are going to get great value next season."
