After arriving in Tasmania mid morning, the Hawthorn players and staff split into five groups; two Hobart camps, two Launceston camps and one Burnie camp.

Each group headed to their respective destinations to begin their Community Camp 2010 journey.

Hobart Camps

Group B

Heading out straight from Hobart airport, the five Hawks players of Group B made their way to the centre of Tasmania to visit the historical village of Oatlands.

Around 100 kids and parents enjoyed the day with players at the Oatlands Football Club oval. A skills session was followed by a BBQ, photos with players and autographs.

Group A

The six players of Group A headed out for a super lunch at the local Orford bakery.  The group, including captain Sam Mitchell, Cyril Rioli, Brad Sewell, Sam Grimley, Riley Milne and Travis Tuck then made their way to Triabunna Football Club.

The players were greeted by approximately 90 local children and about 150 parents for a footy clinic. Following some skills and drills, the players and the local children had a huge tug-of-war, which ended with both teams falling to the ground.

A very funny sight indeed!

Launceston Camps

Group A

Group A players including Luke Hodge, Jordan Lewis and Michael Osborne covered a fair bit of territory on their first day of Community Camp in Launceston.

After touching down, the travelling party - which also includes promising youngsters Ryan Schoenmakers, Liam Shiels and Matthew Suckling - stopped off at the stunning Cataract Gorge for a quick group photo.

The players then made their way to George Town, where they were warmly greeted by over 150 eager kids and the gracious volunteers at George Town Junior Football Club. After running through some drills with the young footballers, the players held a question and answer session with the kids.

That night, both Launceston groups travelled to Aurora Stadium for a fundraiser in support of community football. The players signed autographs, posed for pictures and answered questions from the floor to help raise over $1500 for three Tasmanian senior clubs, who will divide the profits from the evening.

The Club donated raffle prizes that were given away on the night by vice-captain Luke Hodge, which included a pair of Simon Taylor's autographed match-worn footy boots, a family membership and 50 tickets to the Hawks first Pre-season Cup match at Aurora Stadium against Richmond next Saturday.

Group B

Today the Launceston Group B players Grant Birchall, Lance Franklin, Simon Taylor, Jordan Williams, Luke Bruest, Will Sierakowski and Jordan Lisle attended a footy clinic in a small town called Deloraine, with approximately 60 eager kids in attendance.

The kids enjoyed some skills and drills sessions and were also keen to have their photos taken with their favourite Hawks.

Burnie Camp

A small group of players led by Jarryd Roughead and Campbell Brown headed for Burnie. The 20 seater plane landed at the Burnie/Wynyard airport on time as the group headed straight to the LadyBug Café for a coffee and some breakfast.

The players were well fuelled, as the attendance at the Wynyard clinic was outstanding.  More than 100 children and 60 parents participated in the circuit of activities, talk with the players and finally the signing session.

After a quiet break in Burnie, the players returned to the Wynyard Football Club for the sold out fundraising night. The highlight of the night was the effort of local radio personality ‘Doc’ to catch out Campbell Brown, Cameron Stokes and Jarryd Roughead with some entertaining and controversial questions.

The auctioneer for the evening was none other than past premiership  player and Hawthorn great, Colin Robertson. He ensured the donated items, including the signed guernseys and team posters were sold for a great price (total profit of $1600).
