The Brisbane Lions’ four latest recruits will join their new team-mates on the training track for the first time on Tuesday 23 November at Giffin Park Coorparoo from 3pm.

Draftees Jared Polec (Pick No.5 overall), Patrick Karnezis (Pick No.25 overall), Ryan Lester (Pick No.28) and Josh Green (Pick No.32) arrived at the Club today and got their first taste of life as a Brisbane Lions player.

While they supervised for most of Monday’s training session, the four Lions draftees are now eager to get amongst the action.

First round selection Jared Polec said he was looking forward to participating in drills alongside his fellow Lions.

“I’m really excited about getting back into training with the team,” Polec said.

“It was a massive thrill to be drafted and this is now where it all starts.”
“I just want to get on the track and in the gym to put a bit of weight on because I’m still a bit skinny,” he said.

Polec is no stranger to playing with and alongside AFL players considering his senior experience playing in the SANFL in 2010.

“Coming up to this level, it’s great to have already experienced playing against some ex-AFL players and AFL players on other lists,” Polec said.

“But you can just tell from watching AFL on TV that there’s still a massive difference in the speed of the game from the SANFL.”

“The way the game has changed in the last few years has been phenomenal. The defensive levels have really lifted, so that’s something you really need to work on.”
