FOOTBALL fans all over Australia are getting behind this year's exciting finals series with huge crowds expected across the weekend.

More than 64,600 tickets have already been sold for Friday night's blockbuster second qualifying final between Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs at the MCG.

The Dogs and Hawks last met in a final in 1985, however Friday night's game is already guaranteed to beat the 55,000 that attended that match.

The AFL has also announced that a healthy 56,800 tickets had been sold for Sunday's first qualifying final between Geelong and St Kilda.

The Fathers' Day clash will mark 40 years to the day since the Saints took on Geelong in an MCG final. On September 7, 1968 a massive 98,885 people watched the Cats beat the Saints by 44 points.

Collingwood and Adelaide's history as finals rivals is somewhat shorter but a bumper crowd is also expected at AAMI Stadium for the first elimination final with 36,155 tickets sold so far.

The only time the teams had met in a final previously was in the second preliminary final of 2002. The Pies triumphed by 28 points but lost Jason Cloke for the grand final after he was reported for striking Tyson Edwards.

More than 17,000 tickets have also been sold for the second elimination final between Sydney and North Melbourne at ANZ Stadium. These teams last met in September in the 1996 grand final which the Wayne Carey-led Roos won by 43 points.
