UNLUCKY Melbourne forward Austin Wonaeamirri is still on track for the start of the 2010 season despite suffering another hamstring injury at training last week.
Melbourne assistant coach Josh Mahoney said the Northern Territorian, who didn't play an AFL game in 2009, had worked hard to return to fitness before his latest setback.
"Austin had done a terrific rehab program and had got himself in good shape, but unfortunately at training last week he had a mishap and hurt his hamstring and now he's got to have a bit of time to recover from that," he told melbournefc.com.au.
"He's already shown he's prepared to train hard and recover from injury.
"Although it's a setback - on the back of a really tough year last season - and it's not ideal, we've been told that if he does the right rehab, he'll recover 100 per cent.
"He'll be right to go for the season, so there are no problems there."
In a breakout 2008 season which he started on Melbourne's rookie list, Wonaeamirri played 18 matches, kicked 24 goals and received a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination.
However, he tore his hamstring in Melbourne's NAB Cup loss to Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium in February this year. The 21-year-old's latest injury is to his other leg.
Wonaeamirri missed the opening four rounds of 2009 before returning with Casey in the VFL, but suffered a knee injury in his second game back and missed the rest of the season.
