West Coast may have fallen over the line by two points against Sydney in the Grand Final rematch at Subiaco Oval on Saturday night, but the team's slow starts are beginning to become an unwelcome trend.

The Swans stunned the Eagles with four of the opening five goals of the match, and coach John Worsfold acknowledged the area requires some urgent improvement.

"We have just been getting beaten early in contests and we know we haven't been playing at our best, and that is ahead of us," Worsfold said.

"But we are having a go. The players have been outstanding in terms of sticking at it without playing at their best, and I've got no doubt they'll turn it around if they persist at it."

"I know they can do it (play consistently) and I know they will do it and I'm very, very confident if they keep persisting at what they know they need to do they'll do it for four quarters."

"Our best start was against Port Adelaide and we lost that game, so I want to win games. I know the players want to win games and that's what we are here for and we'll keep working to play the football that's required to win games, and eventually I'm very confident we'll play the football that will win by bigger margins."

In a blow to the Eagles, Chad Fletcher sustained a hamstring injury in the third term of the win, and Darren Glass was a late withdrawal from the match with a knee injury.

However, the Eagles will welcome back Daniel Kerr for next week's crunch clash with Collingwood after the midfielder served a one-match suspension, while Worsfold said he expected Glass and Daniel Chick to be fully fit.

Brett Jones was sensational in the victory, filling in for the injured Mark Nicoski in defence, and Worsfold was pleased with the 23-year-old's effort.

"Brett's been hanging in there all year playing extremely good football for Claremont and waiting for an opportunity, and that's a great credit to him but also our depth," Worsfold said.

"You lose Mark Nicoski and you've got a player who we know is a very good AFL player to come in."

Worsfold also praised the 40,688-strong crowd after the win, believing they lifted the team when it was needed the most.

"It's a pretty handy crowd, they're awesome supporters and they certainly play their part. They weren't that pleased at half time but they raised the bar, and I thought their second half was better as well," he joked.
