AAPT Brisbane Lions skipper Michael Voss says improved efficiency going into attack can turn the tide ahead of Saturday night's meeting with Hawthorn at Carrara.

The Lions have dropped four straight but Voss says quicker entry into the forward line can lead to a reversal of fortunes.

"We've got to find a way to get inside our forward 50 more because I think we went in 38 times two weeks ago and 35 last week - and you just can't win games going in that many times," Voss said.

"We've got to be quicker in the way we get it into our forward line. We haven't found that balance yet, so that's something we'll have to keep working on to make sure we get better.

"At the moment we're not giving anyone a chance to get the ball down there and kick a score."

Included in the revamped plan of attack might well be more time forward for Mal Michael, who moved up the ground from full-back against Sydney on the weekend and showed some positive signs.

"One of the things Mal gave up there was a real presence," Voss explained.

"He's a big fella and you really wanted to kick it at him. From that point of view, it's good to have another thing he can do.

"We know the extraordinary things he can do down at full-back but he can also be pretty valuable up forward for us. At times you might see him up there and at other times you might see Daniel Bradshaw forward.

"It just gives you much more flexibility."

Voss will return to his original AFL home on the Gold Coast on the weekend. As a 17-year-old, the now 274-gamer made six appearances for the Brisbane Bears in their final season at Carrara before moving to the Gabba.

"It all goes like a blur. You can't speak to the guys enough to say it goes so quick," he said.

"When you are 17 years of age and the older guys are saying it to you, you think "what are you talking about?" I'm that guy now.

"I'm the older guy telling the young guys that they should savour the moment because it goes so quick. I blinked and now it's 14 years and we're going back there."
