Carrara Stadium is situated 8km west of Surfers Paradise. It was the home of the Brisbane Bears from 1987 when the club was admitted to the VFL competition through to 1993 when the club relocated to the Gabba. The Bears played 61 matches at Carrara for 21 wins, 39 losses and one draw. In round 17, 1992 Geelong scored 37.17 (239) at Carrara against Brisbane 11.9 (75) and the Cats' score remains the highest recorded in an AFL match. Carrara has an estimated capacity of around 22000 with seating under cover for 5300. There are 30 corporate boxes, 48 VIP enclosures and media facilities. The playing surface is similar in size to the MCG and the ground is well served by excellent floodlighting. Carrara hosted ARL matches for the Gold Coast Chargers from 1996-98 and was the venue for a cricket tour match in 1990-91 between Queensland and England - a match made famous for the hijinks of England batsmen David Gower and John Morris who buzzed the ground in a vintage Tiger Moth aircraft while play was underway.
