Port Adelaide has finished day one of 2011 trade week without a deal, but still confident of reaching agreement with West Coast to secure Brad Ebert.

Power football operations manager Peter Rohde spent the day in Melbourne with list manager Jason Cripps, holding discussions with other club representatives.

“We are confident of getting Brad and will keep working with West Coast until we find common ground,” Rohde said.

"We'd like to think we'll get him. He's obviously indicated he'd like to come back to South Australia and we're his preferred club.

"Us and West Coast have to work a deal otherwise we'll see what happens in the pre-season draft.

"He's a 21-year-old who's got some real experience and he's an inside midfielder and the sort of player we've been looking for.

"We think he would add a fair bit to our team if we can get him on board."

Ebert’s return to Port Adelaide (he was drafted from the Magpies at pick 13 in the 2007 AFL Draft) would see him reunited with cousin Brett, who last week re-signed with the Power.

Brad has played 76 games at West Coast, kicking 33 goals. In 2011 he played 22 games, including the Qualifying Final.

Port Adelaide’s other trade week target remains a mature-age ruckman to support the emerging Matthew Lobbe, following Dean Brogan’s retirement at Alberton.

Media speculation has surrounded Jonathon Griffin, but Fremantle is on record as saying he is a contracted and required player.

"At this stage, Jonathon Griffin looks like staying where he is so we'll see what happens as the week goes on," Rohde said.

"Clearly we've been talking to Griffin along the track, but there hasn't been anything so far so we'll have to keep our options open.

"We're talking to a few clubs and there are a few ruckmen out there we have an interest in.”

Rohde says Port Adelaide’s prized pick 6 in the 2011 AFL Draft is not on the table for negotiation.

The Power has subsequent selections at 28, 33, 51, 69 and 87 when the draft is held on Thursday 24 November.

Trade week continues until the cut-off at 1.30pm on Monday 17 October.
