HAWTHORN veteran Shane Crawford will play on next season, with the 34-year-old set to sign a one-year extension offered by the club.

There had been speculation Crawford would draw the curtain on his stellar career after the Hawks were victorious in the 2008 grand final, but the Brownlow Medallist has indicated he is keen to pull on the boots for a 17th season.

The club is currently working through the finer details of a one-year contract, but confirmed Crawford's name would appear on the playing list lodged with the AFL on October 31.

The 1999 Brownlow Medallist, who has also won four best-and-fairest awards during his 305-game career, played 14 games in Hawthorn's premiership season and was still able to have a strong influence, averaging 22 possessions a match.
