This was the last visit for the Aboriginal Power Cup and it was for Warriappendi and Para Hills high schools.
These schools both met at West Adelaide Football Club which is located close to Warriappendi high school. This is both their first time in the APC. The students were also joined by Russell Ebert and Nathan Krakouer.
These two fantastic role models talked about career opportunities and goal setting and how this has affected their lives through the years.
Krakouer also told the kids about how school was for him, he went to an all Aboriginal school called Clontarf Aboriginal College and how football was a big part of his life. He also spoke about how PAFC trainers and coaches help the guys look at further studies ie. Uni, TAFE; you name it.
Because the fellas aren’t always going to be football players, they need something to fall back on.When we asked the students what they would like to do when leaving school we got some deadly answers - for example youth workers, nursing, teaching, mechanics, and heaps in the sport and rec industry. We certainly need more of these in the workforce!
As our discussion came to an end we found our way to the oval for a quick demonstration of their drills so far. Krakouer and Russ joined in and showed off some skills and drills to help the kids.
We hope you guys enjoy the APC weekend and are keen to get into it again next year, goodluck!
