All Gabba gates will return to opening at 3:10pm for Saturday night games and at 9:10am for Sunday afternoon games from Saturday 9 June when the Brisbane Lions clash with the Western Bulldogs under lights.

This means that all members and supporters can watch the curtain raiser and main game from their allocated seat - wherever it is in the stadium - without having to move between matches. The club recently trialled limiting the number of gates and sections that were opened for the curtain raiser to save on the significant match-day costs associated with staffing these areas.

Lions Chief Executive Michael Bowers said the club is negotiating a win-win balance with Gabba landlords – the Queensland Government’s Major Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA) – to have less staff working but still keep all gates and sections open for the complete convenience of patrons.

“The Lions have a very strong ‘members first’ policy, so when the Board met last Monday evening to discuss this matter, we decided unanimously to pursue other cost saving avenues which did not incur a member detriment price tag,” Mr Bowers said.

“We are now looking at other cost saving solutions with the MSFA. It’s been difficult to get there but we will definitely keep on trying. This is more evidence that the club really listens to its members and supporters. We are definitely not some large bureaucracy with communication barriers in place to insulate me or the Board from member feedback.”

The Brisbane Lions apologise for any inconvenience caused by the recent gate trial and we thank you for your patience. Should you have any queries at all, please do not hesitate to contact our membership department on 07 3335 1777.
