Anthony Corrie has also been recalled to the team following an impressive seven-goal haul for the Suncoast Lions last weekend.
Second year midfielder Albert Proud and Hanley’s fellow countryman Colm Begley have both been omitted.
Hanley, who hails from the small dairy town of Ballaghadereen in County Mayo, hadn’t touched an Australian Rules football until he arrived in Brisbane in November last year as an International Rookie.
The solidly built 19 year-old has been impressive for the Suncoast Lions reserves side for much of this season and earned his call-up following a best-on-ground display playing on a wing against Broadbeach last Saturday.
Hanley has been temporarily elevated to the Club’s senior list in place of ruckman Matthew Leuenberger who is currently on the long-term injury list.
He becomes the Lions’ seventh debutante this season and only the second Irish player to ever be selected for a senior match with the Club.
Meanwhile, Daniel Bradshaw has been named at full-forward for his 200th senior AFL match.
Lions members and supporters are also reminded that recently retired Co-Captain Nigel Lappin will perform a lap of honour prior to Saturday night’s match at the Gabba at approximately 6:45pm.
The Club is hoping all members and supporters can attend Saturday night’s crucial clash to pay their respects to our retiring hero and help cheer the team to victory over the Blues.
