Catching the bus to the footy is already catching on in 2008, with double the number of Power fans taking the SA Lotteries Footy Express bus on Thursday night compared to last year.

The bus service, which operates throughout Adelaide and takes supporters to the game and home again, is completely free in 2008 and the message is already being received loud and clear.

More than 13% of Thursday night’s crowd that saw the Power just fall short against the Cats travelled to the game on the SA Lotteries Footy Express. This is around double the percentage at the same time last year.

The Power, the SANFL and Adelaide Metro are evaluating and reviewing the use of the bus service and would like to share some of its findings…

  • 13.5% of the Power v Geelong crowd travelled on the FX (Footy Express) services. This is well above predictions, and around double the same time last year.
  • Adelaide Metro received 13 complaints, around 9 of which related to the service (as opposed to regional/timetable queries).
  • It was reported buses were full from the city and Outer Harbor. We have learnt this was the case for the earlier services but not the later ones. Passengers are urged to be patient and advised that if buses at capacity run past them then another will be close behind.
  • The after hours service from Alberton Oval was accessed by just two people in total. This is a new service which leaves Alberton after the post-game presentations at the club. It is only being trialed so please help us spread the word.
  • Additional drop off points will be added to aid members. Drivers will be encouraged to accede to supporters hailing buses on major routes, but still maintain an ‘express’ service.
  • Members should be reminded that they do not need a ticket to access the service
  • Services may change over the next few weeks as we assess supply/demand. Please continue to refer to our website for more details
