Port Adelaide to clash with Hawks as part of bumper Anzac Day fixture
PORT Adelaide will host Hawthorn on Anzac Day in 2015, as part of a bumper five-game fixture to commemorate the centenary of Australia and New Zealand's service in armed conflict.
The Power will join with nine other clubs as part of the historic day when they take on the reigning premier at Adelaide Oval at 7.10pm (ACST) on Saturday April 25.
The traditional Collingwood-Essendon clash will feature, as will the recently announced morning fixture to be played between St Kilda and Carlton in New Zealand.
The remaining two games will be confirmed when the AFL releases the full fixture on Thursday.
Port CEO Keith Thomas said the club was elated to play on such a significant day on the Australian calendar and face the Hawks in a blockbuster event.
“We are thrilled the AFL has provided us the opportunity to host such a significant game on such a significant day," Thomas said in a statement.
"Port Adelaide has a long association with Anzac Day and we are humbled by the opportunity to be part of the AFL’s commemorations of the centenary of the Anzac story.
"We’ll be working with our partner, the RSL of SA, to ensure a respectful game day presentation for this significant milestone, and our whole club is looking forward to being part of a special Anzac Day for the entire AFL community.
"We think it’s an excellent opportunity to showcase our proud association with the RSL and play in front of what should be another huge turnout against the reigning premiers.”
