POWER midfielder Travis Boak is delighted to announce that he has become an ambassador for the Childhood Cancer Association.
In his role as ambassador Travis will promote awareness and help out by offering his support by making hospital visits, attending official events, and - most importantly - spending time with children suffering from cancer.
The Childhood Cancer Association is a South Australian based organisation providing hands on help for patients and their families from the start of their treatment through until the end.
The Childhood Cancer Association provides a range of support including accommodation, peer and family support, educational and financial assistance and bereavement support.
Boak, who lost his own father through cancer, says that he recently spoke to fellow ambassador Governor Kevin Scarce about his passion for the cause.
“I was at a dinner with Governor Kevin Scarce, who is also an ambassador and I spoke with him about my passion for this cause and that I really wanted to be involved in helping out wherever I could,” Boak said.
“My dad passed away from cancer when I was 16 years old, so it’s something that I think I’ve got something to give back to - I know what it’s like to have a family member suffering, and how hard it can be for kids.
“Ultimately, the goal is to put a smile on a child’s face as they go through what can be a pretty tough time.”
