DAVID Rodan's career is in limbo while he waits to hear whether new Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley wishes to include him in his plans.

Rodan's manager, Liam Pickering of Strategic Management, said new coaches tend to go down the path of developing young talent.

Rodan, 29, has played 176 games since making his debut with Richmond in 2002.

"He's not the youngest bloke but he's certainly not 33 either," Pickering said on Gillette AFL Trade Radio.

"What he has got in his favour is pace, he can win a clearance, and he uses the ball well.

"If Ken Hinkley comes out and says, 'there's no way I'm going to let this bloke go because I really rate him', he'd be happy to stay at Port Adelaide.

"But if he says, 'the opportunities are going to be limited, maybe it's best to move on,' we'll move on.

"I think we'll know that by the end of the week."

Rodan played 10 games in 2012, including the last four games of the season. In several matches he was a sub who was brought on to provide an injection of pace and liveliness.

"He sparked Port Adelaide when he came off the bench," Pickering said.
