Dreadlocked Hawthorn grand final hero, Chance Bateman, is set to lop his locks for Indigenous health - but only if the price is right.

The online auction ends this Thursday 2 October, 2008, at 4pm. Chance is hoping to raise around $10,000 to kick start the Hawks community partnership with the Rioli Fund and Menzies Health – with the locks set to fall this Friday at 10am at Tjanabi Restaurant, Federation Square, Melbourne.

And as an incentive to get the bids coming in for the big chop, five Hawthorn Indigenous superstars - Mark Williams, Cameron Stokes, Lance Franklin, Cyril Rioli and of course Chance Bateman - are offering to wine and dine the highest bidder and a friend at a fabulous lunch in Melbourne.

The Rioli Fund has been established in conjunction with Menzies School of Health Research to help raise much needed awareness and support for research into Aboriginal child health and mental health issues.

Hawthorn Football Club welcomes The Rioli Fund for Aboriginal Health as the Club’s newest Community Partner. Bateman, the spokesman for the five Indigenous Hawthorn players, has embraced this newly formed partnership by offering to officially launch the affiliation.

“It’s great the Club is supporting The Rioli Fund and Menzies, the five of us Indigenous players are really proud of our heritage and look forward to being part of the solution to the health problems faced by so many Indigenous people. I hope by cutting my hair I can raise awareness to Indigenous health and raise some funds for Menzies”.

You and a friend could be on-site for the cut and make a lunch date with the five Indigenous superstars of the Hawthorn Football Club, Mark Williams, Cameron Stokes, Lance Franklin, Cyril Rioli and of course Chance Bateman.
