ST KILDA will consider challenging the two-game suspension handed to defender Jimmy Webster for his thumb to the eye of Fremantle midfielder Nick Suban during the second quarter on Sunday.
The Match Review Panel on Monday deemed Webster made "unreasonable and unnecessary contact" to Suban's eye, assessing the incident as intentional conduct with medium impact to the head.
Slow-motion replays captured Webster first making contact with Suban's ear region before he reached over again using his right thumb to poke the Docker's left eye, which forced his opponent to ground.
The MRP applied a three-match suspension with an early guilty plea reducing it to two games.
Saints coach Alan Richardson did not rule out contesting Webster's eye-gouge ban.
"As soon as you put your hands into anyone's face, you're asking for trouble," Richardson told Fox Footy on Monday night.
"He's put himself in a position there where potentially he misses games and we're disappointed in that.
"We'll have a chat about that [challenging the ban]. I've spoken to Jimmy and so I know what Jimmy's intent was.
"We'll weigh that up in the morning and make a call."
The Saints have until 11am AEST Tuesday to notify the AFL if they will fight the ban.
Webster will risk three games if an appeal is unsuccessful at the Tribunal.
