NORTH Melbourne coach Dean Laidley has lauded the courage shown by midfielder Sam Power against Geelong at Skilled Stadium on Sunday.

Power copped a heavy knock to the head at the 21-minute mark of the second quarter, after a clash with Geelong's Max Rooke.

He was helped from the ground by trainers and initially it looked as if his day had ended.

But the former Bulldog returned in the second half, which drew great praise from Laidley, who said the incident was "frightening".

"Let me tell you, this guy, you should never question his courage," Laidley said. "For him to come on and play again – and he put his head over the ball again – that's the effort required and that's the expectation from the coach."

Asked if he thought the incident was reportable, Laidley said he "wouldn't have thought" so.

Meanwhile, Laidley confirmed Nathan Thompson and Matt Campbell, who were late withdrawals against the Cats, missed due to an ankle injury and leg soreness respectively.

"Thommo's ankle is not quite right and Matty had a big week. He had to go back to Alice Springs for personal reasons and he was a bit sore in his legs, so he'll be 100 per cent next week," Laidley said.
