The West Coast Eagles match committee has maintained a youthful look in the team to play Fremantle in Saturday’s Carlton Mid Derby at Subiaco Oval, with two more players poised to make their club debut.

Scott Selwood will become the fourth member of his family to play senior football after earning a place in the line-up, while Josh Kennedy will complete a long and eventful journey to play his first game for the club.

That pair has come in at the expense of another debutant from last week, Chris Masten, and experienced key position player Jaymie Graham.

Kennedy, who arrived at West Coast via the trade deal which saw Chris Judd go to Carlton, is originally from Northampton, near Geraldton and was initially snared by the Blues from WAFL club East Fremantle.

The athletic big man, who has been highly impressive since make the decision to head back west, was originally a basketballer of some talent before deciding in his mid teens that he would focus his sporting energy on football.

After shining in pre-season practice matches, he was ruled out of the season opener with a calf strain. Last week he resumed for East Fremantle and was one of the bright lights on an otherwise glum day for the Sharks against South Fremantle. The longer the game progressed, the better Kennedy played.

Selwood will follow brothers Adam (West Coast), Troy (Brisbane Lions) and Joel (Geelong) into the ranks of senior football, playing his part in establishing a slice of family history.

That means the Selwood family will become the first since the Daniher family in 1987 to have four brothers reach VFL / AFL level and the 13th family in the history of the game to achieve the feat.

The full list (in order of matches played) is the Daniher family (752 games for Terry, Neale, Anthony and Chris), the Cordner family (376 games for Don, Ted, Denis and John), the Hiskins family (375 games for Fred, Arthur, Stan and Rupe), the Rose family (374 games for Bob, Bill, Kevin and Ralph), the Grace family (220 games for Jim, Mick, Billy and Joe), the Gibb family (214 games for Percy, Len, Reg and Rupert), the Strang family (197 games for Doug, Gordon, Colin and Allan), the Rush family (190 games for Bob, Leo, Bryan, Gerald and Kevin), the Daykin family (187 games for Robert Bert, Richard and Percy), the Fogarty family (140 games for John, Joe, Chris and Tom), the Robinson family (116 games for Bill, Alex, Fred and Gordon) and the Holligan family (97 games for Teddy, John, Mick and Joe).

Scott Selwood earned his elevation despite not playing at any level last week.

After an impressive WAFL debut for Perth in round one, he travelled to Adelaide as the emergency last week, and will eagerly anticipate his chance against the Dockers.
