Fevola's tenure at the Lions remains clouded after being arrested by police early on New Year's Day following a drunken night out in Brisbane.
He has since checked into a rehabilitation clinic and is on indefinite leave from the club.
The latest drama continues Fevola's off-field troubles, which threaten to derail his AFL career.
Speaking from training on Monday, Brown - the Lions captain - said he had not spoken to Fevola but hoped his fellow forward was recovering.
"I think the club management just pointed out that they just want to give Fev time to get his treatment and get his personal issues sorted out and then sort his football out at a later date," Brown said.
"That's as much as the playing group really knows at this stage. At the moment there's no real definitive timeframe on it."
Asked if he thought Fevola would play for the Lions this year, Brown said he didn't know.
"At the end of the day I'm in the dark as much as everyone else," he said.
"Everyone at the club's giving Fev his space to go away and get sorted out and hopefully he'll come back with some good news."
Lions officials are likely to inflict some kind of punishment on Fevola for his latest misdemeanour, with contract termination among those options floated.
Brown said given the loftiness of the decision faced by club officials he expected he and the rest of the leadership group would likely be called on to help determine the goalkicker's future.
However Brown said there was no disputing the bad boy's football ability.
"No doubt if Fev's healthy, he's a great player - there's no doubt about that," he said when asked if he wanted to see Fevola back at the Lions.
"Really for the time being it's such a major issue that I don't think we've given much thought to the playing side of things, apart from the fact that he's a great player and he's a match-winner."
