Youngster Jed Lamb was caught short during the team’s light swim on Saturday morning ahead of their match against Gold Coast Suns at Southport. Lamb forgot his swimming shorts, and as such proceeded through the session in his underwear. Lamb wasn’t the only one caught short on the Coast, when the local pizza franchise, entrusted to nourish the players after the match, failed to make it to the team bus in time. The local delivery driver was up to the task though, pursuing the team 45 minutes down the highway to Coolangatta airport. After each pizza was given the appropriate security clearance, the hungry players enjoyed their dinner at the gate lounge.
Gone but never forgotten - that is clearly Brett Kirk's mantra if a recent text message to players is anything to go by. Prior to the opening round one NAB Cup matches at Blacktown, a thoughtful Kirk text messaged his former teammates to wish them the best of luck for their season opener. Unfortunately for recipients, Kirk - who is travelling the world on Captain Kirk’s Odyssey, promoting AFL around the globe - was working on Pakistan time, with the well-meaning message arriving at the ungodly time of 3.55am Saturday morning.
It’s great to see Swans players embracing Sydney’s diverse event culture. Over the last few weeks, players have attended matches of the Sydney Kings and Sydney Swifts, as well as the Mardi Gras celebrations and the Rhianna concert. This weekend, fans could bump into a number of injured stars attending the Taste of Sydney Festival at Centennial Park.
Dallas Cowboys punter Mat McBriar was like a kid in a candy store last week when he visited Swans HQ. McBriar spent a good couple of hours at the Swans, checking out training, punting with the Swans own superboot Stuart Dew, and checking out the facilities in the football technology department. McBriar then joined the team for lunch. A patient Mrs McBriar enjoyed the tour with her partner and did see the humour in her husband’s role reversal - from star athlete, to one-eyed, autograph hunting fan.
Young defender Campbell Heath has been told to take a seat and relax. So enthusiastic to get back amongst his teammates is the recovering LARS patient, he's been spotted on the boundary line at training kicking footballs. Unfortunately for Heath, that is not part of his official rehab program and he has been ordered to be seated at all times whenever watching training. The youngster is hopeful of resuming running laps next week.
