PORT Adelaide forward Justin Westhoff has become the second player from his club to be nominated for the NAB AFL Rising Star this year, after his four-goal performance against the Eagles on Saturday at AAMI Stadium.

Westhoff has kicked 17 goals since making his senior debut in round 10 this season, slotted nicely into the Power line-up after being named as an emergency four times this year.

The 20-year-old forward bettered All-Australian Darren Glass on Saturday and equalled the four-goal haul he managed in just his second game in round 11.

So convincing was his performance on Saturday, coach Mark Williams predicted his NAB AFL Rising Star nomination during the post-match press conference.

"I thought Justin Westhoff was brilliant in the forward line," Williams said.

"He's kicked a lot of goals and as a junior player having to play as a marking forward, it's a hell of a lot more difficult than getting handball receives.

"I think he'll deserve the nomination if it comes his way this week."

Westhoff was picked up by the Power late in last year's draft with pick No. 71, after spending a year in Central District's league side.

The club asked skipper Warren Tredrea to mentor Westhoff, and the move appears to be paying dividends, with the young South Australian already promising in front of goal.

Earlier this year, Westhoff said he was setting himself the goal of playing "four or five" senior games in his first season. Having already played six, as well as asserting his influence in attack, he's already achieved his objective.

Westhoff joins the following players to be nominated for the award so far this season: Paddy Ryder (Essendon), Cameron Wood (Brisbane Lions), Tom Hawkins (Geelong), Scott Pendlebury (Collingwood), Joel Selwood (Geelong), Ricky Petterd (Melbourne), Jess Smith (Kangaroos), Shaun Higgins (Western Bulldogs), Mitch Clark (Brisbane Lions), Bryce Gibbs (Carlton), Shannon Hurn (West Coast), Robbie Gray (Port Adelaide), Marty Clarke (Collingwood) and Scott McMahon (Kangaroos).
