Hawthorn Football Club have gotten into the Christmas spirit, with players and staff spreading the Christmas cheer through the gift of giving, to those in our community who are most in need.

Good Beginnings, a national not for profit organisation with an office in Doveton North primary school were overwhelmed with requests from families in need at this financially tough time of year.

Staff members at Hawthorn Football Club, each kindly donated a gift (or many) for a child, while the players donated generous hampers of food for each family to enjoy. The goods were delivered personally by Rob Campbell and Rick Ladson to ensure these families in need have a very merry Christmas. Along with the hampers the players took with them the premiership cup and posters for the kids and happily signed and posed for pictures.

The people at Good Beginnings provide support in the form of parenting programs, literacy and numeracy programs and culturally sensitive programs for young parents in the community from various backgrounds such as Chinese, Cambodian and Sudanese. All this is done in the hope of ensuring that young children get the best start in life.

As well as these support programs for parents, Good Beginnings offer play groups and play gyms and give advice and form genuine  and even lifelong relationships with the families visiting them each week for two hours for up to 12 months.

With the introduction of practical skills, building of local networks and employing confidence in these parents to raise their children well. Good Beginnings recognises the importance of a good start to life.

Please visit Good Beginnings for more information about the great service they provide for communities around Australia.
