Collingwood forward Paul Medhurst has been ruled out of this Saturday’s round four clash with Port Adelaide at the MCG.

He will be replaced in the starting 22 by Ben Johnson, who was originally named as an emergency after missing last week’s game with an ankle injury, but has come up well and is ready to play.

2006 Copeland Trophy winner Alan Didak comes into the squad as an emergency, having not played since last season after undergoing knee surgery.

Senior coach Mick Malthouse told the media at the Lexus Centre on Friday that Didak trained "very, very well" earlier that morning, and he’s not far away from making a return.

Medhurst, who starred in last week’s memorable victory over Richmond with four goals, including three in the final term, played on after injuring his ankle in the first quarter.

Malthouse confirmed that he hasn’t fully recovered in time for the Power match.

"He was on the verge of playing, but we elected not to go in with an injured player," Malthouse said.

"Given those circumstances, we expect he'll be available for next week's game."

Medhurst, 25, came to Collingwood as part of the trade that sent Chris Tarrant to Fremantle and handed the Magpies the number eight draft selection in the 2006 draft, which was used on key-position prospect Ben Reid.

After enduring an interrupted pre-season which involved having his tonsils removed and also a foot injury sustained in early March, Medhurst has made a significant contribution in both the club’s wins so far in 2007, with two important goals against the Kangaroos in round one, to go with his efforts against Richmond.
