Barbara Hatton, Tom Hicklan, Clive Wiese and Steve Kakaulas were delighted to be able to meet some of the biggest names in football before heading out to Subiaco Oval to watch the team train.
The residents are all from the dementia group who still live independently in the suburb of Nedlands. Five days a week Nedlands Community Care pick them up at 9.00am and take them out on an activity before bringing them home at 4.00pm. The focus for the group is to keep them living in their homes for as long as possible.
Sally Horley, who coordinates the group’s daily activities, said that this was one of the best treats the residents have ever received.
They are all passionate Eagles supporters and cherished the opportunity to meet some of the club’s big names.
The group especially liked watching the training as they were amazed at how hard the players worked and marvelled at the skills they displayed.
Sally said her mother, Helen Van Hooft, who is a resident of Nedlands Community Care, was looking forward to this excursion all week.
“Her favourite player is David Wirrpanda and has been following him for many years,” said Sally.
Sally Horley said that the group were really excited about the outing and it will be something they will enjoy telling their family and friends.
“These outings are really important to be able to stimulate their minds which in the long run will enable them to live independently in their own homes for longer.”
