WEST Coast has all but locked in another part of its future, with first-year player Daniel Venables close to extending his contract with the club.
The Eagles took Venables with their first pick at last year's NAB AFL Draft – No.13 overall – and AFL.com.au understands he is set to ink a new two-year deal with the club.
The powerful midfielder was already tied to the Eagles until the end of next year under his standard first two-year deal, but the Victorian is now set to be at the club until at least the end of 2020.
Venables was picked by the Eagles from the Western Jets last year having earned All Australian honours for an exciting NAB AFL Under-18 Championships with Vic Metro.
The 18-year-old is quick and tough, and is able to push forward to make an impact near goal. He is yet to make his senior debut and is on the sidelines at the moment nursing a toe injury but was pushing closer to his first game before the injury.
Venables' imminent signing comes on the back of the Eagles securing youngsters Dom Sheed and Jackson Nelson with new two-year deals this week. The pair are now tied to the club until the end of 2019.
