The Magpies won by 28 points with solid but not standout performances from several of its recognised stars, something Sidebottom sees as a major plus.
"You don't want those three or four that stand out every week," Sidebottom said. "We've got good depth.
"Even in the VFL we've got good players playing there, so there's pressure on everyone to perform every week, and I think we're doing that."
While pleased with the win, Sidebottom echoed coach Mick Malthouse's view that the Magpies had at times been "too cute" in their disposal, but viewed that as another positive in the bigger picture.
"I think it's a good thing that we've got things to work on," he said.
"I think we're still playing good footy as well, but we're going to keep improving every week.
"It's all uphill from here."
Sidebottom praised the defensive-mindedness of his forward line teammates for helping Collingwood get on top in the game.
In a largely even contest, the Magpies' ability to trap the ball inside forward 50 and score from forced turnovers close to goal was crucial, particularly in the second term.
"We're all defence before attack," Sidebottom said.
"If the forwards can defend well, then it just sort of works in a domino effect.
"The forwards were good tonight, which helps the mids, which helps the backs.
"As I said, it was a pretty even performance."
After a tough contest, Sidebottom expects the Blues to be a contender this season.
"I think they will," he said.
"They played some good footy tonight and I guess we're just happy to with how we went and we look to next week now."
