ADELAIDE defender Brodie Smith has missed training again but the Crows say there's no alarm over the backman ahead of Friday night's semi-final against Hawthorn.

Smith, troubled by an ankle injury, didn't join teammates at his club's main training session on Wednesday - an identical situation to last week when he had to pass a match-eve fitness test to play in the elimination final against the Western Bulldogs.

"That is just a bit of precaution more than anything ... just looking after him and trying to get him right," teammate Ricky Henderson told reporters after training.

"We didn't do a whole heap, obviously we have got the six-day turnaround so we're just trying to freshen up as much as we can," Henderson said.

The Crows have a score to settle against Hawthorn in Friday night's clash.

The Hawks have ended two of Adelaide's past four finals campaigns with narrow victories in 2012 and in 2007.

Henderson played in the heartbreaking 2012 preliminary final loss and said for those who experienced it, Friday night would offer a chance for redemption.

But he said for the 12 players likely to be selected for the semi-final who didn't play in 2012, the club's loss to the Hawks in round 12 would serve as the primary motivation.

Adelaide led in the third term that night but could only kick 1.6 in the final quarter as the visitors powered away to a 29-point win.

"There might be [a sense of redemption] for the boys who played in that 2012 prelim, but we've got such a new group now," Henderson said.

"We're more worried about the last time we played them, we felt like we should have beaten them.

"We'd like to get one back on them from that game."

Henderson was sensational in Adelaide's seven-point win over the Western Bulldogs in last weekend's elimination final.

He collected a game-high 29 disposals and has averaged just over 20 touches a game this season – his best output since breaking his leg early last year.

The 27-year-old is enjoying more freedom this year to push out of defence.

"I think I've just got a bit more confidence playing up the ground a bit more on the wing and not so much down back," he said.

"That's helped me a little bit and just getting a little bit more confidence in my game."
