The former Essendon coach said he was looking forward to working with some of the Cats’ top-liners when those selected in the final Victorian team gather ahead of the Hall of Fame Tribute Match on May 10.
Sheedy will act as an assistant to Geelong coach Mark ‘Bomber’ Thompson for the Big V side, which has eight Geelong players in its initial 40-man squad.
The Dream Team has five Cats in its squad.
However, Sheedy said while Geelong remained the dominant team in the AFL competition, big performances from the Cats in the Hall of Fame Tribute Match would further convince him of their individual talents.
When asked which players he was looking forward to working with in the lead-up to next month’s game, Sheedy paused and said he was familiar with some through his role in the recent International Rules Series.
But he then turned his attention to the reigning premiers.
“I’d just like to see how good these Geelong blokes really are, when it gets to the real elite level of the best out of 50,” Sheedy said on Tuesday.
“Team versus team [is] a little bit different. Best talent versus best talent probably is one of the first times the followers of this game are ever going to see the best 50 ever.
“So I think this is a very different game compared to a premiership game between two clubs.”
Regardless of the final number of Cats in the Victorian team, the four-time premiership coach said Thompson would be happy.
“Bomber has no restriction on selection, none at all,” Sheedy said.
“He’s been fantastic.”
