What happens if the grand final replay is also a draw?
Ten minutes of extra time will be played, consisting of two five-minute halves. If the scores are still tied after that period, then another 10 minutes of extra time will be played. There will be a result next Saturday.

Will the AFL change the rules on replaying drawn grand finals in time for next year?
Unlikely. The replay rule will be reviewed by the AFL commission during the off-season, but it is expected to be left unchanged.

Will there be another grand final parade?

Can the competing clubs change their selected sides, or do they have to field the same players as chosen for the original grand final?
This is an entirely new game, so the clubs are free to select any players on their list.

Will players cited by the MRP on Monday receive double demerit points?
No. The existing rules did not specify whether double penalties apply in the case of a drawn grand final. The AFL Commission met on Sunday and confirmed players only would pay twice the price for next Saturday's grand final replay, as the rule was intended to apply to the final match of a season.

Will players who took part in the first grand final but miss the second get a premiership medallion if their club wins the replay?
Yes. The AFL will award premiership medals to players from the winning team this Saturday, regardless of whether they play in the grand final, the grand final replay or both.

Does this count as an extra game in players’ stats?
Yes. The grand final replay is an official AFL game.

Will another Norm Smith Medal be awarded?
Yes. Lenny Hayes gets to keep the medal awarded to him last Saturday, but another medal will be struck to be presented at the conclusion of the replay.

Will the umpires who officiated at the original grand final be taking charge of the replay?
Yes, all of the match officials have been reappointed. They are:

Field umpires: Brett Rosebury, Ray Chamberlain, Shaun Ryan. Emergency: Stephen McBurney.
Boundary umpires: Ian Burrows, Adam Coote, Mark Foster, Mark Thomson. Emergency: Chris Gordon.
Goal umpires: David Dixon, Luke Walker. Emergency: Chelsea Roffey.

Will there be live sites in Melbourne where people can watch Saturday’s game (e.g. Fed Square, Myer Music Bowl)?
Up to 30,000 fans will be able to watch the replay at a free, live, family-friendly site at AAMI Park. The winning team is expected to be presented at AAMI Park after the match. The Sidney Myer Music Bowl won't be used this week as it is hosting a music festival.

Is there a count available on how many players have had to cancel weddings, overseas trips and other functions?
The major casualty at this stage appears to be Shane O’Bree’s wedding. The retired Collingwood midfielder is getting hitched in Bali this weekend. Many of his former teammates are now unable to make the trip.

How much money will the AFL make from the replay and where will it go?
The amount that will be made is yet to be determined, but it is important to remember the AFL is a not-for-profit community organisation. The grand final replay will provide a huge benefit to the game, because the money raised will help players, clubs and leagues from the elite level through to grassroots footy.

Will the draft combine and trade week be postponed?
The NAB AFL Draft Combine will go ahead as planned in Canberra. It begins on Tuesday, September 28 and finishes on Friday, October 1. The trade period will commence on Tuesday, October 5, a day later than planned. The father-son bidding meeting will also be held on that day. The trade period will conclude at 2pm on Monday, October 11.
