Ash: We have training like normal for the bye week and have three full days off over the weekend, including Friday. We were pretty dirty with the way we played in Melbourne the other day, so there won’t be any relaxing going on until the days off. They will be a good mental break, but we want to get back into it to redeem ourselves.
How do you pick up such a fast speed and never get caught? – Griff from Wattle Glen, Vic
Ash: It’s not something I really think about, except when we’re doing our testing in the summer. I’m lucky I’ve always been reasonably quick and I think it’s something you are born with, although you can improve your speed with the help of a running coach.
Are you guys allowed to eat takeaway burgers or anything like that at all during the season? Sally from Duncraig, WA
Ash: The club dietitian sure isn’t big on the takeaway food…pizza with low fat cheese and crust is the only thing that you will get away with after a game. It really comes down to you the individual. You don’t want your skinfolds up high, so you have to eat properly.
Hey Ash. Who do you think will win the Lions best and fairest award at this stage? – Ben from Sydney, NSW
Ash: Browny and Blacky are the two blokes who spring to mind straight away. I think they’re both doing okay in some of the newspaper awards, so they’re probably hard to split at the moment. Luke Power will be up there too along with the boys who have played all the games like big ‘Strawbs’ Merrett. Joel Macdonald has had a real good season. Jars Brennan and Nuxy Corrie should have polled a few votes too.
Hiya Ashley. Which of your teammates would you say is the most underrated?
Ash: Probably a couple of blokes mentioned in the last question. Like I said, Joely Mac has had a real good season. Anthony Corrie has also given us some spark. Joel Patfull is another one who does a great job. Those blokes are all admired by their teammates, but might be underrated by others.
