Potential free agent Douglas wants to stay at Crows
Potential free agent declares his intentions to remain at Adelaide
OUT-OF-CONTRACT Adelaide star Richard Douglas isn't going anywhere, declaring he wants to remain at West Lakes.
The 2010 club champion, who will be a free agent at the end of the year, is yet to re-sign with the Crows but after arriving in Adelaide following the club's 19-point loss to Geelong on Thursday he told reporters he would do so soon.
Douglas' contract status has been largely overshadowed by Patrick Dangerfield and Rory Sloane, and the 28-year-old joked that he appreciated the attention.
He's played 155 games for the Crows and averaged 22 disposals last year.
"It's good that someone noticed [I'm out of contract]," Douglas laughed.
"Hopefully I'll just get a kick early on and put pen to paper early in the season.
"[I'm] happy to stay around and I like being in Adelaide and hopefully I can stay a part of it and get the ultimate success."
Potential free agent Dangerfield is yet to state whether he intends to stay at the Crows next year with Geelong hotly tipped to win his services if he decides to leave.
A digitally altered photo of Dangerfield wearing a Cats jumper flashed across the scoreboard in the third term of Thursday night's clash, much to the amusement of the crowd.
Douglas had no issue with the stunt, although said his teammate looked much better in his current colours.
"The crowd enjoyed it [and] the boys didn't really pick up on it so they can have their fun," he said.
"I was on the bench at the time and had a chuckle but I'm sure the guys on the ground were totally focused on the footy.
"I haven't spoke to him about it … I thought he looked terrible in the blue and white – the tri colours suit him a lot better.
"We don't want to give a running commentary on [his contract] every time we have a press conference or a bit of media – it's going to play out through he year and we'll leave that totally up to him."
