The East Coast Eagles and the Hills Shire Council will bring a little AFL tradition to the Hills when the 2009 Premiership Flag will be flown high above the Council Chambers.
This tradition is often seen in the AFL when premiership teams will fly the flag above town halls, major buildings and even once above the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The ceremony will take place at the Hills Shire Council Chambers at 129 Showground Road on Tuesday, November 24 at 3.30pm. The ceremony will signify the fantastic year that the East Coast Eagles had in 2009 and also recognise the wonderful contribution the council has made to not only AFL in the area, but to community sport in general.
The Hills Shire Council undertook one of the biggest sporting venue projects it has ever seen when it embarked on the construction of Bruce Purser Reserve, partnering with the AFL, Cricket NSW and the East Coast Eagles. Its completion in 2009 gave football a new home in the Hills and it is no coincidence that the completion of this fantastic new venue coincides with the first ever AFL Sydney Premier Division flag "heading to the Hills".
All Eagles members and supporters are encouraged to come along to the ceremony and witness the flag being flown for the first time.
We will then look forward to finding a more permanent home for the flag throughout the 2010 season at Bruce Purser Reserve.
